According to the 'Whereas' of this regulation 2016/66, it is necessary to update regulation 440/2008 to include new and updated test methods recently adopted by the OECD in order to take into account technical progress, and to ensure the reduction in the number of animals to be used for experimental purposes.
This adaptation contains twenty test methods: one new method for the determination of a physicochemical property, eleven new test methods and three updated test methods for the assessment of ecotoxicity, and five new test methods to assess the environmental fate and behaviour.
