Chartres Convention: safety evaluation, let's work together!

During the 10th Cosmetic Valley's Parfums et Cosmétiques – Enjeux règlementaires (Perfumes and Cosmetics –Regulatory constraints) Convention, held in Chartres (Cosmetic Valley, France) on November 28 and 29, the main topic was safety assessement, of cosmetic products, ingredients and substances, in the new Regulation frame. The leitmotiv: let us work together, share resources, organise joint efforts … thus, we could be able to address our new obligations. A new tone, as the July 2013 deadline approaches.

Anne Dux, the Director of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs in the FEBEA, opened the Convention by explaining the law to strengthen the sanitary safety, and concluded it, with her team, through a Q/A on the new Regulation on Cosmetics. She emphasized the fact that it is the very last Convention before the implementation of this Regulation.
Indeed, the countdown has begun.
Further, considering the content of the conferences and the audience (480 people, a record), it seems it is constantly speeding up, and that the cosmetic industry is sensitive to this speed increase.

The safety evaluation: the central issue

Thus, many topics dealing with the application of the new text have been talked about: Guidelines of the Annex I for the evaluation of the safety; implementation of the Article 20 on claims; Threshold of Toxicological Concern (TTC) approach, for the safety evaluation. Cosmetovigilance organization at the international level, cosmetic packaging and safety evaluation.  In France, new prerogatives of the French National Agency for Safety of Medicines. Safety evaluation of natural extracts; new strategies for the preservation of cosmetics; SCCS guide for the evaluation of the safety of nanomaterials; timeframe for REACH registration; development of tests on sensitization alternative to animal …
