Connected beauty: cosmetics applications are taking smartphones by storm

undefined

68% French people have a smartphone, and several studies have shown they use it four hours a day on average. Given this real 3.0 addiction, skincare brands have decided to play the game: they are now seeking to capture the market of smartphone apps.

The cosmetics industry is going more and more digital and has been designing mobile applications to better help consumers with their shopping experience. But what are they for exactly?

Deciphering cosmetics

Clean Beauty
Concept:
A French mobile application launched by cosmetics laboratory Officinea. It screens the list of ingredients contained in beauty products.
Users only need to scan the list of ingredients. If the product composition is ‘clean’, nothing is displayed. On the contrary, if it contains controversial substances, they appear on the screen. Explanations from the scientific literature are provided to show why it might be better to avoid these ingredients.

The application is free and available to everyone.

Clean Beauty is available on the Apple Store and Google Play.

Making bookings easier

Phyt’s App
Concept:
The French organic cosmetics brand has launched a mobile application to make it possible to book a Phyt’s treatment with a beautician in the network, at home or even at work. Customers only need one click to have access to the detailed sheets of the various treatments possible, so they can quickly select the service, time, and even choose the practitioner among those available.

The application is free.

Carrying out a skin diagnosis

La Roche-Posay
Concept:
Sensitive skin expert La Roche-Posay offers a digital tool to define everyone’s skin needs. You need to fill in a rather precise questionnaire to establish the diagnosis and discover your own adapted beauty routine.
The brand has also designed an application dedicated to teenagers suffering from acne. En Mode Posay is a playful interface that serves as a reminder to help young people follow their skincare routine. There is even a selfie function to check the skin evolution on a daily basis.

The applications are free.

They are available on Apple and Android devices.

Ioma à moi
Concept:
In addition to offering skin diagnoses in their stores, Ioma has developed a mobile application for users to remember their analysis results. What for? Judge and watch the evolution of their skin condition over time.
Still with a view to take care of yourself, there is a functionality that provides the UV index of the day.

Previsualizing the result of a product before buying

Make-up Genius
Concept:
Developed by L’Oréal, this simulator makes it possible to virtually test makeup products – sold by L’Oréal, of course. Just put the front camera in selfie mode and choose the products to put on your face. The group thought that was not just quite enough, so they went even farther with the Shade Genius application to test and find the perfect foundation shade for you.
Price:
The applications are free.
Where can I find them?
They are available on the Apple Store and Google Play.

OPI Nai Studio
Concept:
Who has never tried ten different shades on every nail while strolling in a nail varnish department? Thanks to the OPI application, you will no longer need to daub your fingers with nail varnish to choose your own favourite. Just take a picture of your hand and try the different references offered by the brand.
Price: The application is free and available to everyone.
Where can I find it? OPI is available on the Apple Store and Google Play.

The mobile market is growing exponentially. It represents a great opportunity for beauty brands to increase their turnovers. They should be accessible to mobile users to satisfy their desires with only one finger pressure!
