Nouvelle consultation de l'ECHA sur la proposition de classification CLH de l'Hexyl salicylate

In February 2021, ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) had organised a consultation on the French proposal to classify Hexyl Salicylate (fragrance ingredient) as Skin Sens. 1 and Repr. 2. It has now launched a complementary consultation to clarify the rate and relevance of hydrolysis of the substance for the oral route of exposure.

Hexyl Salicylate (CAS: 6259-76-3; EC: 228-408-6) is currently not included in CLP Regulation 1272/2008 and is not regulated by Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009. It is listed in the CosIng with the functions of fragrance and perfuming agent.
France proposed to classify the substance in Skin Sens. 1 - H317 (May cause an allergic skin reaction) and Repr. 2 - H361d (Suspected of damaging the unborn child) with the pictograms GHS07 - GHS08 and the warning statement Wng (Warning).
ECHA’s first consultation on this issue ended on 9 April 2021.

During its October meeting, the working group for the Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC) asked for further information to clarify the rate and relevance of hexyl salicylate hydrolysis for the oral route of exposure. This information is needed to assess the relevance of toxicity data from structural analogues of this substance.
This targeted consultation is open until 18 January 2021.
