The success of electric face brushes

© L'Observatoire des Cosmétiques

From simple"beauty toys" to cosmetics, they are becoming part of facial cleansing habits, trying to become unavoidable. We now find all kinds of them. Overview of the latest news by Ariane Le Febvre.

Reading time
~ 5 minutes

They have already been the subject of an article in February 2013[ID 1657], but, sophisticated or, on the contrary, more accessible, new major brands, such as Clinique, are betting on them. They deserved an update.

Visa"beautiful skin"

Since 2012 and Clarisonic (the first of its kind to use sonic technology, invented for electric toothbrushes), electric facial cleansing brushes have become the most widely used in the world. it beauty accessory. Clarisonic refers to them as"Skin Cleansing Systems". Quite a program! You have to admit that they really transform the cleansing stage, this essential prerequisite for any beautiful skin. The women who have tried them have adopted them because they clean much better and faster (usually 1 minute) than a simple manual cleaning. This not only results in cleaner, clearer skin, but also a more radiant, radiant complexion, such as oxygenated, and often an improvement in skin texture, which becomes finer, with tighter pores. Only restriction: really dry skins that do not tolerate hard water.

They are becoming more democratic…

They are now available at low prices, in simplified versions (the brushes are"just" rotating), such as those of Nocibé, a multifunction brush, which, in addition to gently cleansing or exfoliating the face, polishes the nails or sanding the feet. It performs 340 to 430 revolutions per minute depending on the selected speed. For the face, it can be used with cleansing milk or cleansing foam (La Brsse qui fait tout, with 4 interchangeable tips, 34.90 €). Same for Vitry (Vitry Face Care rotating face brush, 39,90 €, in pharmacy), an ergonomic face cleaning brush, which displays 2 speeds, is sold with 2 tips and a cleaning foam (30 ml).

… or become more luxurious

Philips is working on its design, colours and special editions (pink, blue, relooked by Antik Batik…). The VisaPure of the Summer is available in translucent lilac (129 €, with a free exfoliating brush). This silky bristle brush combines rotation and vibration, as well as 2 speeds of use (gentle or deep cleaning). The most sophisticated facial cleansing brushes can be found at Clarisonic, which refines its technology and especially its comfort, to reassure sensitive skin, which is afraid to irritate their face by using them daily. The new Cashmere Cleanse or Satin Precision tips (Luxury Brush Head High Performance, around €25, from July) should appeal to them. They offer the same quality of cleaning (announced 6 times higher than that of a traditional manual cleaning), thanks to the 300 micro return trips per second of the sonic technology, with an additional sensory experience. All while operating a real micro-massage,"without moving the tissues a millimeter". The silk fibres have been lengthened and softened to caress the skin. A double level of fibre stimulates micro-sanguine circulation and promotes the skin's natural hydration. Last but not least, this month the American brand bought by the L'Oréal group is offering the new Aria system (199 €, after the special dilated pore version launched in spring (Deep Pore Solution Face Cleansing System, 169 €), the new Aria system (199 €, with a 30 ml mild moisturising cleanser). Always guaranteed for two years, this last model is gold-plated in addition to 3 speeds, a battery indicator, a drying system and a charger for universal voltage in wall socket or USB port (no need for adapter abroad). The three speeds, in particular, allow a custom cleaning, according to the desired efficiency. One can thus adjust the cleansing according to the season, the temporary sensitivities of the skin or the zones of the face (wings of the nose, contours of the lips…). Aria is the third generation of Clarisonic cleaning brushes, after Mia 1 and Mia 2. It is available in white, black or pink.

New anti-pollution virtues

Clarisonic has just carried out a new study on the anti-pollution virtues of the Aria system. The brand distinguishes two types of polluting particles. The finest (2.5 micrometers in diameter) come from combustion (organic compounds, heavy metals…) and penetrate into the pores of the skin. The largest (10 micrometers in diameter) come from dust, pollen, mould… These remain on the surface. Sonic cleaning would be the only method of removing all types of pollutants, and would be 30 times more effective than manual cleaning in removing them.

Boost sales of cleaning products

Electric facial cleansing brushes are also an excellent way to boost sales of cleansing products, as shown by Clinique (Sonic System Cleaning Purifying Brush, 119 €, spare head: 22 €, from July), which takes advantage of this to focus on its essential Basic 3 Temps (clean, exfoliate, moisturize). All skin types, all ages, this brush, developed by Swiss engineers, uses a sonic vibration mechanism, offering a gentle and deep cleansing that does not attack the skin. It also has a battery indicator light (LED signal), a three hour battery life and a universal charger. The brush bristles, rounded at the ends, have been antibacterially treated. They are surrounded by a protective film that protects them from germs, bacteria and fungi. The brush can withstand a thousand washes! The design is protected by 5 patents: the oval head makes it possible to clean the small zones difficult to reach, like the wings of the nose, the hair root or the chin. Hair is of two types: light green, short and firm, effectively cleanses the T-zone subject to excess sebum and cleans pores. This part of the brush reproduces the natural movement of the hand for an intuitive feel. The white hairs, short and supple (majority), clean the more delicate zones like the cheeks where one finds less sebaceous glands. The result on the skin is very soft and pleasant. As with all brushes, the skin breathes better, is healthier and brighter. It is also better able to receive subsequent care, whose effectiveness will be improved.
