The 49th Amendment to the IFRA Standards (which set the rules for the use of fragrance ingredients) was published on 10 January 2020, and brought significant changes with:
• 25 new Standards (for a total of 214 substances involved)
• About 100 existing Standards amended
• The update of the way the Standards are set with the use of the “QRA2” for sensitisation
• The inclusion of aggregate exposure
• The evolution of the number of product categories from 11 to 12 and the inclusion of new sub-categories

Since 10 May 2021, these new rules have applied to new fragrance creations.
As of 10 May 2022, they are extended to existing compositions. Products containing compositions that do not comply with the 49th Amendment must therefore be withdrawn from the market, or be withdrawn very quickly if they have not yet been withdrawn.
It is up to the Responsible Persons to take all appropriate measures to comply with these provisions.
