EDs, Nanos: UK OPSS calls for data

PE, Nanos : appels à données de l'OPSS britannique

On 14 August 2023, OPSS (Office for Product Safety and Standards) launched two calls for data, one on six substances with suspected endocrine disrupting properties, and the other on seven cosmetic ingredients in the form of nanomaterials, with a view to their safety assessment by the UK Scientific Committee. All have already been assessed, or are in the process of being assessed, by the European SCCS.

These calls for data are open to all interested parties, including universities, manufacturers of cosmetic products and/or raw materials, and consumer associations.
They also inform them that SAG-CS (Scientific Advisory Group on Chemical Safety) will use 70kg aas their default bodyweight assumption for adults in new safety assessments. This aligns with other UK bodies carrying out chemical risk assessments across a range of sectors, who have agreed that a default adult bodyweight of 70 kg is representative for the UK adult population.

Endocrine disruptors

For the substances involved, OPSS specifies that, in addition to the elements required in the SCCS Notes of Guidance, it expects specific data if they may be used in products intended for children and pregnant women, particularly in terms of estimates of exposure for these populations.
This call for data involves six ingredients.
