What are the factors that drive 18-30 year olds to enter or not enter a store? To answer this question, the OpinionWay polling institute conducted a survey on behalf of EquipMag (a trade show for professionals in the field of point of sale design). The objective was to dissect the consumption habits of young French people.
To carry out this study, OpinionWay interviewed 1051 French people aged 18 to 30. The interviews were conducted between August 29 and September 2, 2022.
First of all, OpinionWay focused on classifying what drives the panel to flee from stores. In the list of inconveniences, we find in order:
• The lack of consideration for the environment
• The phobia of crowds and crowded stores
• The dread of waiting in line
• The feeling of being forced to sell
• The unpleasant odors (sweat, cheap perfume, etc.)
• The anxiety of being approached by a shopkeeper who is too insistent,
heat
• The obvious signs of waste
• The abuse of air conditioning
• The fear of not being able to make a choice
On the contrary, the reasons that encourage 18-30 year olds to push the doors of a store are:
• The responsible approaches
• The friendliness of the staff
• The opportunity to be inspired
• The cooler temperatures in hot weather
• The possibility to spend time in exceptional places (green walls, innovative decoration, etc.)
• The store’s efforts to limit its impact on the planet
