Cosmetic solidarity in the era of the coronavirus

La solidarité cosmétique à l'heure du coronavirus

The Covid-19 epidemic highlighted a lack of resources in terms of masks and hydroalcoholic solutions, which are necessary for health care personnel (and the population) to effectively fight the virus. Faced with these shortages, the French cosmetics industry quickly mobilized to meet these needs. A proof of solidarity in these difficult times, but also a reminder that this industry is proving to be of public utility.

Beauty professionals didn’t wait until they were asked to offer their help.
As soon as the lack of hydro-alcoholic solutions became apparent, they wanted to make their contribution.
It was LVMH that initiated the movement by making some of its factories available.
Very quickly, L’Oréal, Mary Cohr, Léa Nature and Expanscience joined the fight.

A major mobilization that spread throughout the entire industry, from heavyweights to SMEs and very small businesses.

Taking care of healthcare workers

However, the solidarity that has won over the cosmetics industry did not stop at the massive production of hydro-alcoholic solutions.
The lack of medical masks for the nursing staff was (and still is) crying out.
Some companies have responded. This is the case, again, of LVMH, which has started to manufacture masks.
The group has also placed a large order with China.
“We have found a Chinese industrial supplier capable of delivering ten million masks to France in the next few days (seven million surgical masks and three million FFP2 masks). The operation will be able to be renewed for at least four weeks in similar quantities (i.e. around 40 million masks),” indicated the group’s communication department.
