What can the natural and organic beauty sector expect? Ecovia, a research, consulting and training company specializing in ethical industries, has just given its predictions for the months ahead.

Ecovia has identified several very specific trends.

Ever more sustainable
Waterless products such as shampoo bars, solid moisturizers and sheet masks are set to make headway this year. Refillable cosmetics are also gaining in popularity.

The rise of “green” recommendations
“The number of ethical labels in the beauty industry will continue to multiply. COSMOS and Natrue are the main standards, with over 35,000 and 6,400 certified references respectively. Others include Nordic Swan, Fairtrade, Non-GMO and Climate Neutral,” says Ecovia.

Once a vegan, always a vegan
Many people are reducing their consumption of animal products and turning to plant-based alternatives. This trend also applies to the beauty sector. “More and more companies are expected to market skincare products of this type. The Body Shop announced this month that it had become the first major brand to have its entire range certified by the Vegan Society.”

Technology for sustainability
More and more professionals are marketing raw materials derived from biotechnologies or other cutting-edge processes. The aim is to offer alternatives to conventional ingredients without disrupting biodiversity.
