United States: the mask market is booming

Government restrictions on Covid-19 are easing in the United States. Soon, wearing a mask outdoors will no longer be mandatory. Will this return to a sense of normalcy influence Americans in their beauty routines? Mintel, a research firm, has provided an update on the upcoming trends.

“The facial care category is expected to grow at a slower pace than expected as consumer priorities change,” analyzes Mintel. ”However, Covid-19 has served as a catalyst for several emerging movements that will shape the future of innovative product development.”

New opportunities

So Mintel looked at what new products in the market would be most likely to appeal to the American public. Specifically, the firm looked at facial masks, a popular product at a time when citizens’ skin is under strain.

This mask, with its non-acidic formulation and “ice cream” texture is a gentle daily peel.
It targets young consumers who are afraid to use products formulated with AHAs or BHAs. “The INCI list contains two key ingredients, Prunus lannesiana flower extract and Oryza sativa (rice) lees extract,” says Mintel. ”The product can be used as a thin layer without rinsing or even as an intensive treatment.”*
