It is the accessory that creates the buzz at the moment, the one that we will not escape for the holidays! Because the furoshiki, this reusable and divertable fabric in which we can wrap care as perfumes, represents the zero waste gift par excellence! Originally from Japan, furoshiki actually means “bath bundle”. Traditionally, people carried their toiletries to the bathhouse in this small knotted scarf. This system then evolved into a way of wrapping gifts and objects by simply using folded or knotted squares of fabric. The folding technique is as important as the object it wraps!
More than a wrapping, furoshiki is a part of the gift itself! This art of knotting can also be found in Africa where women use knotted loincloths to carry everything they need.
To learn, there are many tutorials on the web, as for example at Waam Cosmetics which offers several colorful furoshikis whose fabrics come from Senegal (packaging only 50 cm X 50 cm from €5.50, or 65 cm X 65 cm, €6.50).
