15th Sun Protection Conference: rendez-vous in November 2021

15e Conférence sur la Protection solaire : rendez-vous en novembre 2021

The last 30 years has seen major developments in SPF and UVA in sun protection, and we are now on the cusp of an exciting era of innovation in how we will protect ourselves from the environment. The Sun Protection conference has been running biennially since 1993 and is one of the leading events in the industry calendar. this year edition will address the advances we have seen, and look at the transformations we can expect in the next decade that will give us improved sun protection and safety, whilst caring for the environment.

Reading time
~ 3 minutes

Since the first Sun Protection Conference in London in 1992, it is interesting to see how the topics presented have evolved over the decades. We have seen the development and finessing of the methods of testing and labeling SPF, UVA, water resistance, photostability, the introduction of much more efficient and broadspectrum sunscreens, and the introduction of the concepts of protection beyond UV and into the longer wavelengths of visible and blue light and infra-red. Regulatory aspects have broadened and there is a greater movement toward international harmonisation of testing and use of sunscreen actives. Environmental and safety issues are and will be a challenge in the future.
