GMP, i.e. the Good Manufacturing Practices, is a major issue for cosmetics companies. Codified to become an international standard, they are now, atop ensuring security for consumers, a new competitive criterion for the brands, which some have already decided to emphasize through a certification process. GMP: for which purpose?

Why should manufacturers be interested in it?
The aim is, first, that the consumer be guaranteed the quality of the product matches the parameters defined by the manufacturer. The reproducibility of the quality of a product is a key factor for the success of a brand.

This comes thanks to the following points:
• Do it the right way from the beginning,
• Rationalise or streamline the production facilities,
• Improve the personnel training; sensitise the personnel to hygiene rules, for instance,
• Capitalise on the personnel and companies’ expertise,
• Enhance the company’s durability by formalizing the oral skills in written documents.

Certification, or no certification? Which issues for tomorrow?

On the French level, some manufacturers, already sensitized to the GMP while applying the recommendations issued by several national or European bodies on this topic, have decided to jump on the bandwagon and to apply the Cosmetic GMP, based on the standard draft.
Keep in mind that, up to now, there is no obligation to be certified by a certification body. The manufacturer alone is responsible for choosing to be compliant by itself, to be helped by a consultant specialized …
