Recall of products - 2023

Recalls, marketing bans, import refusals, destruction orders… Non-compliant and/or unsafe cosmetic products detected on the market by control authorities are regularly reported to consumers and competent authorities in third countries, through dedicated European portals (Safety Gate for the European Union, Safety Database for the United Kingdom) or the French database Rappel Conso. All are listed here.

Safety Gate 2022: European Commission publishes its reportSubscribers only

The European Commission has just published its annual report on “Safety Gate”, the European rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products. The most frequently reported type of health risk was related to chemicals. For the second year in a row, toys and cars topped the list of product categories with the highest number of notifications. Cosmetics came third.

2022: 213 cosmetics in the Safety GateSubscribers only

213 cosmetic products were banned or recalled in 2022 by the Safety Gate, the EU rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products. The vast majority of these were due to the presence of more or less recently banned ingredients.

Every week, dedicated European portals (Safety Gate for the European Union, Safety Database for the United Kingdom) list the non-compliant and/or dangerous products detected on the market by the control authorities. Here are the cosmetic products that are subject to a recall or a marketing ban this week: products formulated with ingredients prohibited in cosmetics.
