Silver: final Opinion of the SCCSSubscribers only

Following an opinion from the Risk Assessment Committee (RAC) of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) recommending that silver be classified as “Toxic for Reproduction Category 2”, the European Commission asked the SCCS to assess it safety. The Scientific Committee has just published its final Opinion.

Following the SCCS Opinion, the final version of which was published in February 2024 and which excluded children under the age of three from safe conditions of use, the industry submitted new data on this point. The European Commission has now asked the Scientific Committee to assess these data.

New coating for TiO2 (nano) : preliminary Opinion of the SCCSSubscribers only

Following the mandate given to the SCCS in November 2023, the Scientific Committee has assessed the safety of Sodium Myristoyl Sarcosinate as a coating for titanium dioxide in nano form used in its UV filter function. Its preliminary Opinion is open for comment until 22 July 2024.

Following the EFSA (European Food Safety Agency) opinion concluding that titanium dioxide was not considered safe as a food additive, the European Commission asked the SCCS to re-evaluate its safety for use in certain cosmetic products. The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety has just published the preliminary version of its Scientific Advice.

Prostaglandin analogues: new request for Opinion to SCCSSubscribers only

In its assessment at the beginning of 2022, the SCCS was unable to reach a conclusion on the safety of prostaglandin analogues substances. Since the industry has provided new data, the European Commission has just given the Scientific Committee a new mandate.
