The Iranian cosmetics market after sanctions were lifted

Today, Iran attracts the interest of many global cosmetics brands, in particular since multilateral and national economic and financial sanctions related to the Iranian nuclear programme were lifted. Hajir Hakim Hashemi, President of the DermEdem Laboratories, came to the Cosmetic World Tour held by the FEBEA (French Federation of Beauty Companies) last September 19-20, 2016 to make an update on the situation in this country.

Hajir Hakim Hashemi is not only the founder and President of the DermEden Laboratories, he is also both French and Iranian, and he directed a family cosmetics export-import company in Iran for several years. So, he did not just introduce the Iranian market, he basically told its story…

The market situation

Hajir Hakim Hashemi started by pointing out Iran is a very big market: it counts more than 80 million inhabitants, the majority of which live in cities. 18% of Iranians live in Teheran, the capital, where 40% of the business takes place.
The population is composed of 90% of Shiite Muslims, ‘which is a real difference compared to other Arab countries with a Sunni majority, in particular in the way they experience the Muslim religion, but also as regards international relations,’ Hajir Hakim Hashemi explained.

Today, the Iranian President is Hassan Rohani, a moderate elected three years ago (the next presidential election is scheduled for May 2017). ‘Things started to get more flexible with the Western world when he came to power. For example, there has been progress from the nuclear standpoint. And it seems everyone agrees that he will be re-elected for a second four-year mandate,’ the speaker announced. …
