The composition of beauty products is also subject to consumer expectations. According to forecasting firm Euromonitor, Europeans are currently particularly keen on super-active skincare products.

For many years, users’ attention was focused on product claims rather than the INCI list. Over time, this trend has been reversed. “The development of social networks and constant consumer demand for efficacy, transparency and safety have led to an increased focus on ingredients,” analyzes Euromonitor. In addition, the post-pandemic period has played a role in the general public’s interest in the efficacy and safety of skincare products.

Did you say seasonality?

As in the food industry, it is now customary to use certain active ingredients at a given time of year. “More and more players in the beauty sector are positioning themselves in the seasonal skincare market by launching AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C and retinol,” says Euromonitor. “During the autumn months, retinol and cosmetic acids reign supreme. The winter months are devoted to skin regeneration and building the hydrolipidic barrier. Spring is the time to start the cycle all over again with acids. During the summer months, the skin needs light moisturizers to regenerate after exposure to the sun. At the same time, there is a growing awareness that SPF protection is important all year round.”
