For the past seven years, Barron (an American weekly magazine) has compiled a list of the 100 most sustainable companies. And in the 2024 ranking, some of the places were taken by companies from the beauty industry.
To achieve this ranking, the groups were rated on the basis of various environmental, social and governance measures. Barron’s collaborated with Calvert Research and Management (a firm specializing in responsible investment).
The top 100 companies, selected from among the 1,000 largest publicly-traded companies in the US, scored highest on 230 criteria, ranging from workplace diversity to greenhouse gas emissions.
A number of beauty companies (brands or suppliers of raw materials/packaging) feature in the top 100.
They include Procter & Gamble (#12), Aptar Group (#29), Merck (#38), Estée Lauder Companies (#46), Avery Dennison (#49) and Colgate Palmolive (#58).
