Environmental commitment: Cosmetics Europe calls for joint action

“Alone we go faster, together we go further…” For some time now, there has been a growing number of joint actions between players in the beauty industry to achieve satisfactory sustainability standards. On the occasion of the Sustainable Cosmetic Summit (held in Paris from October 30 to November 1, 2023), Emma Trogen, Deputy Managing Director of Cosmetics Europe, recalled the importance of these initiatives and the need for cosmetics companies to continue in this direction.

“The beauty industry must become more eco-responsible,” begins Emma Trogen. The tone is solemn and the words well considered. This is no longer a choice, but an obligation.

“The industry has to focus on the essentials: work towards ever more sustainable sourcing of raw materials, the restoration of natural resources, and be very vigilant about its water consumption. The products we put on the market must be as much part of a circular economy approach as possible.”

According to the Cosmetics Europe representative, “all companies must participate in this effort to preserve the planet. Everyone has an individual role to play, from the largest group to the smallest SME. But the key to success lies in collaboration. Even if it’s not in the beauty industry’s DNA to work directly with competitors, pooling efforts will undoubtedly help us go further. Together, we are stronger, with greater financial and scientific resources. The EcoBeautyScore Consortium is a perfect illustration of this. Last but not least, being able to organize internally is also a fine demonstration of the beauty industry’s strength.”
