Sustainability: Yves Saint Laurent beauty makes its contribution

Durabilité : Yves Saint Laurent beauté apporte sa pierre à l'édifice

Who said that luxury was not virtuous? The premium cosmetics brand has just announced its new sustainable development plan created in collaboration with the NGO Re:Wild (NGO involved in ecological restoration, ed.). YSL’s objective is to participate in the “rewilding” of the planet in certain priority areas such as the Ourika Valley in Morocco, Haiti, Indonesia and Madagascar.

The report is alarming. According to YSL Beauté, 75% of ecosystems have been degraded and more than one million species are on the verge of extinction. This is why the brand decided to launch a major sustainable development program: Rewild Our Earth.
The plan focuses on four countries.

Morocco
YSL Beauté and Re:Wild want to reverse the effects of desertification on nearly 1,000 hectares and empower the local population.

Haiti
The objective is to restore primary forests.

Madagascar
The goal is to plant nearly 400,000 trees to help restore biodiversity.

Indonesia
In this country, the goal is to preserve the land and build a site dedicated to saving 350 species.

“Rewilding is an innovative approach to conservation based on a progressive effort to enable natural processes, repair damaged ecosystems and restore degraded landscapes. To fight climate change, we don’t need to reinvent the planet, we just need to rewild it and create opportunities for our ecosystems to recover,” explains Caroline Negre, International Sustainability & Scientific Director for YSL Beauté. “Our ambition, simply put, is to help make the world a wilder place by 2030.”
