What's the current state of corporate CSR commitment?

The fight against climate change is a key issue for manufacturers. To better map the level of commitment of companies (across all sectors), the “Les entreprises s’engagent!” movement (initiated by Emmanuel Macron in 2028) commissioned the OpinionWay polling institute to conduct a barometer to measure industrialists’ awareness of the environmental cause.

The survey was carried out among a sample of 400 French companies (with ten or more employees). Interviews were conducted between June 19 and July 10, 2023.

“Managers are convinced that environmental and social issues have become unavoidable for their companies,” explains OpinionWay.
In fact, 94% believe that it is the responsibility of the CEO to commit to more sustainable practices. Another 85% believe that the industrial ecosystem should do more to combat the climate crisis. “These perceptions are unanimous, whatever the size of the structure.”

Despite this desire to do better, professionals explain that they lack the support and means to move their processes towards more virtuous practices. This is even more true for SMEs than for large groups.

What does it mean to be sustainable?

For managers, it’s essential to implement concrete actions (inclusive recruitment, improved purchasing, etc.) to reduce the impact of their activities and have a positive effect on the planet (57%). They explain that it is also important to set targets and measure their progress (53%). Internal communication is also important (36%).

On the other hand, only 5% are prepared to lower their company’s financial targets to meet CSR challenges.
