Silver: ECHA launches a targeted consultation on harmonized classification and labelling

Argent : l'ECHA lance une consultation ciblée sur la classification et l’étiquetage harmonisés

On July 6, 2021, ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) opened a targeted consultation on the harmonized classification and labelling of silver (nano and non-nano). A first consultation on the Swedish classification proposal took place in late 2020. This one follows the production of a new study by the industry in relation to the reproductive toxicity potential of the substance.

Targeted consultations for CLH proposals are launched in case further information is needed on a particular hazard class, or if comments are sought on e.g. a specific additional document. They do not replace a normal consultation on CLH proposals but information that is collected is taken into account in the preparation for the opinion of the Risk Assessment Committee (RAC).
As these consultations are targeted, the length of the commenting period is shorter than the usual consultation on a CLH proposal.

The proposal for the harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) of silver (EC: 231-131-3; CAS: 7440-22-4) was submitted by Sweden and was subject to a consultation, which ended on 18/12/2020.

• Muta. 2, H341 - Suspected of causing genetic defects
• Repr. 1B, H360FD - May damage fertility. May damage the unborn child
• Aquatic Acute 1, H400 - Very toxic to aquatic life, M-factor=10 (for silver)
