On 30 June 2023, the IFRA (International Fragrance Association) notified the 51st amendment to its Standards. 9 months later, on 30 March 2024, the new Standards of specifications and restrictions come into force for new creations.
This 51st amendment introduced 59 new features, including 1 new Specification Standard and 46 new Restriction Standards (see the full list in the article IFRA notifies 51st amendment to its Standards, CosmeticOBS, 17 July 2023).
These new provisions must be complied with by IFRA members, who have set deadlines for compliance. For new creations, the deadline has been set at 9 months, expiring on 30 March.
Reminder: a new creation is defined as any fragrance mixture for which the brief has been issued after the completion of the information exchange across the supply chain period (i.e. update of IT systems, bilateral information exchange between fragrance houses and information exchange between fragrance houses and customers).
