5 CLH classification intentions withdrawn for fragrance ingredients

5 intentions de classification CLH retirées pour des ingrédients de parfum

At the end of August 2022, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published eight proposals for harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) from Sweden. All concerned fragrance ingredients, for classification as reprotoxic substances. Five have now been withdrawn.

For these fragrance ingredients, Sweden suggested classification as category 1B Reprotoxic. This would mark the start of a process that would ultimately see these substances listed as CMRs, whose use, unless exempted, is prohibited in cosmetic products in Europe.

The notification of intention of classification concerned eight substances:
• Cuminaldehyde (CAS 122-03-2)
• p-Cymene (CAS 99-87-6)
• 3-p-Cumenyl Propionaldehyde (CAS 7775-00-0)
• Cyclamen Aldehyde (CAS 103-95-7)
• 4-tert-Butyldihydrocinnamaldehyde (CAS 18127-01-0)
• Methyl 4-t-Butylbenzoate (CAS 26537-19-9)
• 4-t-Butylbenzaldehyde (CAS 939-97-9)
• 4-tert-Butyltoluene (CAS 98-51-1)

ECHA has just announced that five of these have been withdrawn for :
• Cuminaldehyde
• 3-p-Cumenyl Propionaldehyde
• Methyl 4-t-Butylbenzoate
• 4-t-Butylbenzaldehyde
• 4-tert-Butyltoluene
