A new list of endocrine disruptors

Une nouvelle liste de perturbateurs endocriniens

Would some Member States of the European Union find the Commission a little slow in regulating endocrine disruptors (EDs)? Five of them have just launched a website to establish and regularly update a list of substances known or suspected to be in this category, with the aim of “accelerate the further identification and regulation of EDs in the EU. 36 of the listed substances can be used in cosmetic products.

The initiative comes from five national authorities of EU Member States: France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark, whose Environmental Protection Agency hosts this website.
On its homepage it states that “the aim of this website is to primarily inform stakeholders about the current status of substances identified as endocrine disruptors (EDs), or under evaluation for endocrine disrupting properties within the EU. The intention of compiling this information is to improve knowledge about EDs, increase transparency, coherence and consistency, as well as coordination across legislative areas.”

It consists of three lists:
• List I: Substances identified as endocrine disruptors at EU level
• List II: Substances under evaluation for endocrine disruption under an EU legislation (i.e. included in CoRAP)
• List III: Substances considered, by the evaluating National Authority, to have endocrine disrupting properties

All three lists include 38 substances that may still be used in cosmetic products (excluding those already listed in Annex II - prohibited substances - of the Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009).

In List I

This list contains substances that have undergone the full evaluation process for endocrine disruption as regulated in the EU under the Plant Protection Products Regulation (PPPR), the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) or REACH …
