Confirmed fears about Triclosan safety

On our CosmeticOBS-L’Observatoire des Cosmétiques website, we have already drawn your attention on the strong doubts dealing with Triclosan. This antimicrobial preservative, still widely used in deodorants or shaving products, is again the topic of an Opinion by the European Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP), which confirms the reservations already published on it.

Suspected to be  an irritant, sensitizing, even allergenic, persistent and harmful to the fauna and flora, Triclosan had already been the topic of recommendations and warning for its use in cosmetics by the SCCP.

This committee has just released a new opinion that confirms the main concern about it, i.e. its ability to induce a resistance of some bacteria similar to the resistance to antibiotics. It recommends to be cautious when using it.
