The conclusions of the assessment of Triphenyl Phosphate, a plasticiser used in cosmetics included in the CoRAP (Community rolling action plan) under the REACH Regulation, have just been published by ECHA on its website. France, the evaluating Member State, has concluded that the substance should have a CLH classification as an endocrine disruptor for the environment and be identified as a SVHC.
Triphenyl Phosphate (CAS 115-86-6) was originally selected to clarify concerns about :
• Its potential as an endocrine disruptor
• Its use by consumers
• Its high aggregate tonnage
• Its widespread use
The assessment was awarded to the United Kingdom and then, after the Brexit, to the Anses (Agence nationale de sécurité sanitaire de l’alimentation, de l’environnement et du travail - French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety), which has just published its conclusions, bringing the assessment process to a close. The information available on the substance led it to conclude:
• That it should be included in Annex VI of the CLP Regulation with a classification of endocrine disruptor for the environment
• That it should be identified as a SVHC (Substance of Very High Concern) and be subject to authorisation for this same property
As a reminder, Triphenyl Phosphate is one of the potential endocrine disruptors that the European Commission has placed on its priority list, and the assessment of its safety in cosmetics has just been requested from the SCCS.
