Gold for Gattefossé!

Gattefossé

At in-cosmetics, Gattefossé presented one of its new products: Emulium® Illustro. It is a water-in-oil emulsifier particularly suitable for pigments with applications in products such as make-up or sunscreen. Presented in the “Innovation zone” of the 2019 edition of the in-cosmetics exhibition, it received first prize in the category “best functional ingredient”.

Emulium® Illustro is based on a patented technology based on polyglycerol esters, as well as two fatty acids derived from castor oil, which “react in the presence of polyglycerol, according to a polyglycerolized reaction to reconstitute the emulsifier that is sufficient in itself and does not require a co-emulsion to make stable and effective formulas”, indicated Myriam Abderrachid, marketing director of Gattefossé.

Always more natural

Gattefossé has affirmed its quest for the green by marketing a new 100% natural ingredient.
“We have been working for six years to find a lipid composition that provides a concrete solution to the problems associated with the formulation of natural W/O emulsions. We have selected three raw materials that have undergone esterification followed by interesterification. The combination of a grade of polyglycerol-6 with low free glycerol with 12-hydroxystearic and ricinoleic acids has resulted in a flexible structure capable of stabilizing without co-emulsion. The unsaturated chain provides fluidity to the emulsion and gives textures that are very easy to spread,” said Maxime Nollet, an engineer specializing in lipid chemistry at Gattefossé.

For the company, adopting an eco-responsible approach is a necessity.
