Kline : market analysis of cosmetic ingredients

Kline has published the latest update of its"Personal Care Ingredients: Market Analysis". This report reviews recent and upcoming regulatory developments, current and future industry investments and new product launches. This update also looks at how the industry is addressing concerns about silicones in formulations.

Regarding regulation, Anvisa (the Brazilian Health Agency) recently announced restrictions for the use of Lead acetate, Pyrogallol, Formaldehyde and Paraformaldehyde in cosmetic products. At the same time, the American Natural Products Association has noted a 50% increase in the rate of certification of new natural products compared to 2012.

An important fact in the cosmetics industry is the significant and continuous increase in multifunctional products, such as BB and CC creams. This is THE trend for 2013. BB cream is marketed as an all-in-one product, replacing serum, moisturizer, base, foundation and sunscreen. CC creams are refined and lighter versions of BB creams. Brands such as Clinique, Dior, Estée Lauder and Garnier offer BB creams, Chanel, Olay, L'Oréal and Lancôme des CC creèmes.

Also noteworthy: anti-aging continues its sustained growth in emerging and developed markets. Particularly advanced, anti-aging solutions in hair products: a major trend of 2013, with many brands, especially in the United States and Japan, that include anti-aging properties in conditioners, anti-UV and moisturizers.

On the other hand, the line between sun care and skin care is becoming blurred, with products from both segments including claims and claims from the other. Food ingredients such as lecithin or Carrageenan seaweed …
