Triphenyl Phosphate: final Opinion of the SCCS

Following the mandate given by the European Commission to the SCCS, in the framework of the evaluation of ingredients listed as endocrine disruptors, the Scientific Committee has just published its final Opinion on the safety of Triphenyl Phosphate. It has been adopted by written procedure on 25 July 2024.

Background

Triphenyl Phosphate (or TPP) (CAS No.204-112-2, EC No.115-86-6) is used to soften or make supple various synthetic polymers, including in nail polishes, enamels, or manicuring preparations.
It is not currently regulated under the Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No.1223/2009.
The substance was included in the European Commission’s second call for data on endocrine disruptors and was the subject of a mandate to the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety. The SCCS published its preliminary Opinion in April 2024.
