A study conducted by Ifop and Norgil, a network of hair expert institutes, reveals that in 25 years, the proportion of French people affected by hair loss has increased by 32%. While image and appearance occupy an increasingly important place in everyday life, hair loss has become a real social phenomenon, especially since the most concerned are no longer only men, but also women and young people.
This Ifop study was carried out by an online self-administered questionnaire, from 15 to 17 December 2014, with a sample of 1005 people representative of the French population aged 18 and over.
A significant increase within a generation
Today, 79% of the French population reports hair loss and hair problems (all alopecia taken into account, including baldness). In 25 years, the proportion of French people who do not already have baldness but are affected by hair loss has risen from 44% in 1990 to 76% in 2014, a worrying increase of 32 points in the space of a generation.
Women with hair loss
Women appear more prone to hair loss, 93% of women under 35 report losing their hair, this proportion remains stable, around 80%, after 35 years. Only 16% of women say they do not lose their hair at all, and
more than half of women are worried about their hair loss. Generational effect, the youngest of them, who are the most affected, are more sensitive to this phenomenon.
