Beiersdorf has just announced that it has successfully integrated recycled CO2 into one of its formulas. After being collected and processed, the CO2 could be turned into ethanol for cosmetic use. Nivea Men Climate Care will be the first to benefit from this breakthrough.
“This feat was made possible by the carbon capture and utilization (CCU) process. CO2 recycling technology involves several steps. First, carbon dioxide is collected from places like industrial smokestacks and directed to a bioreactor, where it is then fermented and converted into cosmetic ethanol,” explains the Beiersdorf Group.
And Climate Care Moisturizer continues to rack up the good points. The formula is 100% free of microplastics, silicones, mineral oils and PEG/PEG derivatives. It is also climate neutral and manufactured using electricity from 100% renewable sources. Its packaging is fully recyclable.
“This product, with its innovative recycled CO2 technology, is a milestone for us,” says Jean-François Pascal, Vice President of Sustainability at Beiersdorf. “The name ‘Climate Care’ represents our commitment to the preservation of the environment. Climate action is more than ever at the center of our approach”
Nivea Men Climate Care will be launched in Germany at the beginning of June 2022. It will initially be available in a limited edition and will be sold in pharmacies and online.
