French Presidency of the Council of the European Union: FEBEA warnings

Taking over from Slovenia, France will hold the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1 January to 30 June 2022. The FEBEA (Federation of French Beauty Companies) has just published on its website a call for vigilance on several points that will be topical during this term, and that directly affect the cosmetics sector.

As the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union starts in January, the cosmetics sector will pay particular attention to several texts under discussion or in preparation during this term, says FEBEA.
The European Union produces most of the regulatory framework to which cosmetics manufacturers are subject, starting with a sectoral regulation (Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009), the revision of which has just started, which guarantees the health and safety of consumers. More broadly, the EU has included in its work programme several texts that will directly or indirectly impact the sector: launch of a strategy on sustainable chemistry, recast of the framework applicable to packaging, strengthening of consumer information, regulation of digital platforms…

Consumer health and safety

Recognised as the strictest in the world, the European Cosmetics Regulation serves as a reference model worldwide. In the framework of its “Chemicals Sustainability Strategy” (CSS), the European Commission has announced a revision of the European Cosmetics Regulation in order to adapt the existing framework to this new strategy and to make some updates.
FEBEA welcomes an update of this text which came into force in 2013, but will be particularly vigilant to ensure that an approach to assessing the safety …
