Accustomed to waging fierce war on each other to win consumers’ favor, brands in the beauty industry have clearly understood that to adapt to regulatory environmental requirements and rethink the way they work, they need to move forward together. The FEBEA organized a morning of exchanges in Paris (June 29, 2023) to present some collective initiatives aimed at ensuring a more responsible future.

“Our objective is simple,” began Emmanuel Guichard, General Delegate of the FEBEA. “For France to remain the world leader in cosmetics and the leader in sustainable cosmetics. To achieve this, it’s imperative to organize as a sector and work together on collective projects. It’s at times like these that our role as a federation really comes into its own.”

Plastic Act progress report

The FEBEA took advantage of the event’s theme to give a progress report on its Plastic Act, its action plan to help beauty professionals reduce their plastic footprint.
Generally speaking, the companies that are part of the program feel very committed and want more:
• 74% have set recyclability targets
• 71% have set targets for reducing plastic use
• 68% have set targets for reincorporation
• 49% have set targets for reuse

“This shows that companies are strategically implementing the ambitions of the Plastic Act internally. Of course, there are still some implementation difficulties, so there are many shared levers that we still need to explore together,” commented Stéphanie Lumbers, Director of Sustainable Development at the FEBEA.
