Green industry: open letter from Cosmébio to the French Minister of the Economy

In an open letter published in January 2023, Cosmébio (Professional Association of Ecological and Organic Cosmetics) questions the French Minister of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, Bruno Lemaire, who announced a bill aiming at making France “the first green industry nation in Europe”. Cosmébio, which claims to be a forerunner in this field, intends to make its voice heard in the drafting of this law.

The bill announced by the Minister aims not only to make France “the first green industry nation in Europe”, but also to encourage the decarbonisation of the industry.
“Modestly, we claim […] to have a certain lead in these matters: technically, ethically and symbolically,” Romain Ruth, President of Cosmébio, writes.

After a brief review of the development of organic cosmetics, he reminds us that his association represents, just over 20 years after its creation, 730 brands, from the most prestigious to the most local, 15,000 products bearing the Cosmébio logo, 12,000 hectares of aromatic plants, mainly for the cosmetics sector, grown in France…

“Our movement has largely contributed to the creation of a market that exceeds 12 billion euros worldwide and participates daily in the development of the French economy with more than 7,800 jobs in the cosmetics industry. We have therefore been collectively involved for more than twenty years in this fundamental movement that promotes a genuinely green industry while remaining anchored in the iconic industrial sector that is cosmetics,” Romain Ruth argues.
