Launch of PEPPER, a platform to develop research on endocrine disruptors

Lancement de PEPPER, une plateforme pour développer la recherche sur les perturbateurs endocriniens

The professional associations France Chimie, the FEBEA and the Fondation de la Maison de la Chimie, in partnership with the French Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition, announce the creation of PEPPER, a public-private platform designed to develop research on the identification of endocrine disruptors. As the first platform of its kind, PEPPER aims to become a structure with a European dimension that contributes to making the validation process of methods developed in Europe more reliable and faster and encouraging their use.

France Chimie Press Release

Endocrine disruptors are a major concern for consumers. While European regulations strictly regulate them, the scientific methods currently available do not yet cover all the mechanisms of action of endocrine disruption. One reason for this is the insufficient number of validated test methods.

In response to this situation, several public and private actors have joined forces to create PEPPER, a public-private research platform whose objective is to carry out a “pre-validation” of toxicology and ecotoxicology test methods relevant to characterize endocrine disrupting properties. The platform’s action will lead to ensuring that methods meet quality criteria and building internationally recognized evidence.

A test activity for test methods

Three functions are provided and funded by the platform:
• The identification and documentation of mature, scientifically based test methods that meet a need for the identification of endocrine disruptors
• The organisation of tests on these methods, using test laboratories, to assess the repeatability and reproducibility of the results
• Support for stakeholders to transmit their methods and the required scientific reports to international validation bodies

A partnership approach for a European ambition

This initiative is part of the National Strategy on Endocrine Disrupters (SNPE) set up by the …
