New record in exports for the cosmetics sector in 2022

Nouveau record à l'export pour le secteur cosmétique en 2022

Despite an unfavourable context, and after a very good year in 2021, the French cosmetics industry shows even better performances: the sector records 19.2 billion euros of exports in 2022, i.e. an increase of 18.8% compared to 2021. The sector, with a balance of 15.6 billion euros, is the third largest contributor to the positive balance of foreign trade, behind the aeronautics (23 billion euros) and wines and spirits (16 billion euros) sectors.

2. Lipsticks
3. Eye make-up products (mascaras, etc.)

This performance can be explained in particular by the very strong attractiveness of the “Perfumery” and “Make-up and facial care” categories: between them they represent 95.2% of exports of cosmetic products to the American market.

French perfume is particularly attractive to the United States, followed by Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates. French lipstick is the product most imported by China, followed by Singapore, the United States, Germany and South Korea.
