Today, there is a shortage of toxicologist experts. Especially, of course, since the entry into force of Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009, with its new requirements for the safety assessment of cosmetic products. The demands are pouring in, the work is enormous… and also very complex, as Dr Stéphane Pirnay, from Expertox at the 31st Matinales de la Cosmétique, explained.

The Matinales de la Cosmétique, organised by Sylvain-Romain Cotte ( SRC Consulting ), bring together cosmetics professionals each month around a breakfast and a current theme. And it is nothing to say that the safety assessment of a cosmetic product is at the heart of the news. Dr. Stéphane Pirnay of the toxicological expertises Expertox and proved it (if necessary) during his two hours of intervention.

" Toxicology is a difficult discipline "he began. " It is not an exact science, it leaves an important place to interpretation. It is transversal, integrating many other disciplines. And it is constantly evolving, particularly in response to scientific discoveries ".

The field became even more complex with the entry into force of Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009 on July 11, 2013, and particularly with its new Annex I, devoted to the Report on the Safety of Cosmetic Products, the key piece in the constitution of the Product Information File. Without going into the details (to be found in the files Practical DIP and Annex I Practice ), Annex I is divided into two parts.
