Slow Cosmétique association closes its doors

L'association Slow Cosmétique ferme ses portes

For the past 11 years, the Belgian-based NGO has been campaigning for “healthier, more authentic” cosmetics. Julien Kaibeck, its founder, has announced the closure of the association due to unfavorable economic conditions.

Slow Cosmétique’s ambition was to promote reasoned, ethical beauty, from formulation to marketing.

To explain the situation, Julien Kaibeck referred to “a critical situation at the end of summer 2024. Over 70 contributing members out of just over 300 have either gone bankrupt or ceased trading in the last 24 months. The media have been less inclined to share content about the label and the Slow Cosmetics movement since 2023. The very activity of members has plummeted, due to a lack of customers who seem to have grown weary or changed their consumption patterns. Finally, the very notion of a cosmetics ‘label’ is changing, and in our view, weakening in favor of the claims of the brands themselves.”

The association will cease activity on December 17, 2024.
