At the regulatory and scientific congress held as part of the Cosmetics Europe Week in Brussels last June 13-17, 2016, Salvatore D’Acunto, DG Grow’s Head of Unit for Health Technology and Cosmetics, dealt with the main issues regulatory authorities are working on within the European Commission.
As an introduction to his presentation, Salvatore D’Acunto reiterated the fact that he has been in charge of cosmetics at the European Commission for just a year. After praising the sector’s good health and innovation capacity, he told the congress participants about the various challenges both the industry and regulatory authorities will face in the months to come. Then, he highlighted the fact that these issues must be tackled taking into account the context of their main objectives: preserving the balance and efficacy of regulations, which must be understood by all stakeholders, in particular consumers, and guaranteeing a high level of safety, while helping the European industry remain competitive.
’There are 18 draft measures under study,’ he announced , ‘which should be published over the next few months.’ But, rather than providing details on these measures, Salvatore D’Acunto preferred to underline the current hot spots from a global standpoint.
