Ecocert launches a ‘Sustainable Materials’ certification line

Ecocert lance une ligne de certification “Matériaux Durables”

The use and recycling of materials (metals, glass, plastics, polymers and other composites) represents an ecological issue that is as central as it is complex, requiring appropriate solutions. This is why Ecocert has decided to make a commitment to industry by launching this new department, with an initial audit and certification offering for the plastics sector.

With global plastic production set to exceed 400 million tonnes by 2022, 11 million tonnes of plastic will end up in the oceans every year. Consumers are increasingly aware of their ecological impact: 90% of French consumers are calling for alternatives to plastic in food packaging, and 78% of consumers worldwide are demanding greater responsibility from manufacturers and retailers in terms of reducing, reusing and recycling plastics.

An obligation for companies

Companies are now faced with increasingly strict regulations, such as the French AGEC law and the European proposal for packaging and packaging waste, which impose a minimum percentage of recycled materials in products from 2025, and a target for packaging recyclability by 2030.
With this new service, Ecocert is offering companies turnkey solutions not only to meet these legal requirements, but also to regain consumer confidence.

Ecocert’s response

Ecocert’s offer dedicated to the Sustainable Materials sector provides certifications for companies wishing to move towards more sustainable production.

Among these initiatives, Ecocert highlights:
• Ocean Bound Plastic certification, which promotes the collection of plastic waste before it ends up in the oceans, by imposing strict social and environmental responsibility criteria
