Great Britain updates its CLP

La Grande-Bretagne met à jour son CLP

On 23 October 2023, the UK announced that it had updated its CLP Regulation and the GB MCL (Mandatory Classification and Labelling) list. This concerns a total of 98 substances, including some with INCI names, and mainly consists of aligning with the latest European ATPs.

This update came into force on 20 October 2023, with a compliance date of 20 April 2025. It applies to the whole of Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales).
For substances of interest in cosmetics, it should be noted that while these classifications are equivalent to those set out in the 17th and 18th ATPs (Adaptation to Technical and Scientific Progress) of the European CLP Regulation (Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances), the dates of application are different.

p-Cymene

The substance “p-cymene; 1-isopropyl-4-methylbenzene” (No.CAS: 99-87-6, No.EC: 202-796-7, INCI: p-Cymene) is listed in the CosIng with the function : “Fragrance”.

The classification of Great Britain
• Flam. Liq. 3; H226 - Flammable liquid and vapour
• Acute Tox. 3; H331 -Toxic if inhaled, with an ATE value of 3 mg/L (vapours)
• Asp. Tox. 1; H304 - May be fatal if swallowed and enters the airways
• Aquatic Chronic 2; H411 - Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects

The european classification
The classification of Great Britain is identical to that set out in the 17th ATP of the European CLP, which came into force on 17 December 2022.
