Nanos: the declaration "à la française"

Time has gone when nanos shall be declared. Further to the declaration on the European level, as required in the Regulation on cosmetics, another one is mandatory on the French level. This is the topic of a press release by the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy. This declaration applies to all the substances when presented as nano-particles, and is mandatory since January 1st, 2013.

The Cosmetics Regulation, implemented since 11 July 2013, requires the declaration and the notification of the nanomaterials present in cosmetics, six months prior the placing on the market of products that contain them.
Another declaration will, then, be mandatory: all the types of nano-materials shall be declared, if manufactured, distributed or imported on the French market.

Up to now, it seems that more than a thousand of our daily-life products contain nanomaterials: cosmetics (sunscreens …), sporting goods, building materials and paints, electronic equipment… However, their uses and their risk profiles, because this technology is emerging, are still not that known.
Thus, as of 1 January 2013, all the manufacturers, distributors or importers shall declare the uses of nanoparticle substances, and the yearly quantities produced, imported and distributed on the French territory. The first declaration, about the 2012 figures, will be filled in through an Internet dedicated and secured website.
This declaration will make it easier to know the nanoparticle substances placed on the market and their uses, to have a traceability of the commodity chains and to know in a more accurate manner, the market and the marketed volumes. …
