On 13 December 2023, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published Germany’s proposal for an harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) for Drometrizole, a UV absorber.
2-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-p-cresol (CAS No.: 2440-22-4, CE No.: 219-470-5, INCI: Drometrizole) is an ingredient listed in the Cosing, with the function: UV Absorber.
It is not currently regulated by European Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009nor in in Annex VI to European CLP Regulation 1272/2008.
Germany proposes to classify the substance as:
• Skin Sens. 1, H317 - May cause an allergic skin reaction
• Aquatic Chronic 1, H410 - Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effect, M-factor=10
