On 14 November 2022, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched a consultation on a proposal for harmonised classification and labelling from Denmark for Methyl 2-Octynoate, a fragrance ingredient already subject to labelling requirements as an allergen in cosmetics. This consultation is open until 13 January 2023.
Methyl 2-Octynoate (CAS: 111-12-6; CE: 203-836-6) is a fragrance ingredient listed in the CosIng.
It is listed in Annex III (entry 89) to Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009, which states that its maximum concentration is limited to 0.01% in oral care products. Classified as a labellable allergen, its presence must be indicated in the list of ingredients when its concentration exceeds 0.001% in leave-on products and 0.01% in rinse-off products.
It is not currently listed in Annex VI of the CLP Regulation.
Denmark proposes to classify the substance as :
• Skin Sens. 1A, H317 - May cause an allergic skin reaction
• Pictogram: GHS07.
• Warning statement: Wng (Warning).
The ECHA consultation is open until 13 January 2023.
