The French government consults on the first stage of its "PFAS" plan

Launched on 17 January 2023, the “PFAS” action plan led by the French Ministry of Ecological Transition is entering its first stage with a consultation of stakeholders on the drafting of an order providing for the monitoring of “PFAS” in the aqueous discharges of the industrial sectors concerned. Stakeholders have one month to submit their comments.

The Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion is launching a consultation of stakeholders for the drafting of a decree aimed at implementing an analysis campaign of aqueous discharges from industrial sectors that may produce or use PFAS.
“This action is part of the fourth axis of the ‘PFAS’ action plan aimed at better protecting the health of the French and the environment,” explains the ministry in a press release.

The aim of this approach is to improve knowledge of industrial discharges of PFAS in order to significantly reduce emissions from the industries concerned.
The Ministry has decided to implement monitoring of industrial effluents that are highly likely to contain PFAS.

In order to provide a framework for this monitoring, the Directorate General for Risk Prevention is proposing a draft ministerial order providing for the measurement of PFAS concentrations in the effluents of certain installations classified for environmental protection (ICPE).
This text must list the sectors of activity concerned, the substances to be analysed, the technical conditions for carrying out the analyses and the schedule for implementing the campaign.
