Bormioli Luigi launches into sputtering decoration

Bormioli Luigi se lance dans le décor par sputtering

Packaging becomes an object of desire. The Italian glassmaker, keen to offer its customers ever more luxurious bottles, has just acquired new equipment dedicated to sputtering: a surface treatment that produces metallic or translucent effects (on perfume bottles, in particular).

“The sputtering technique is similar to vacuum metallization. It promises the product the same brilliance and resistance to impact and scratching,” explains Bormioli luigi. “The sputtering stage, on the other hand, involves applying the decoration under vacuum using a physical process that distinguishes it from metallization. Selected metals such as steel, gold, silver, copper… are transformed under the effect of a gas and deposited on the surface of the bottle in the form of microfragments whose thickness can be defined for minimum impact. The main objective, however, is to preserve the transparency of the glass, making it recognizable by optical sorting and guaranteeing its recyclability. This mastery makes all the difference.”

As a result, Bormioli Luigi’s Parma workshop is now able to offer this service to its customers. The aim is to offer ever more luxurious bottles without compromising on sustainability.
