The countdown is on. As 2023 prepares to enter its twelfth and (last!) month, some consumers have already started their end-of-year shopping. And in these tense economic times, the Attest agency has taken an interest in how Americans are preparing.
To conduct the study, Attest surveyed 2,000 Americans during the month of October 2023.
Will consumers dip into their savings to spoil their loved ones? According to the figures, 18.4% of the panel intend to spend between $200 and $250. However, 15.3% of those surveyed (mostly people aged 50 and over) indicated a budget approaching $1,000.
Unsurprisingly, children (54.2%) are likely to have the most gifts under the tree. However, respondents also intend to think about their partners (49.8%), parents (48.3%) and siblings (39.3%).
“Over 44% of Gen Z and a third of Millenials plan to buy Christmas presents for themselves,” says Attest.

December 25th is a year-round event. “The percentage of consumers starting their shopping in October has more than doubled in one year (from 9.3% to 23%).”
However, 43.8% of individuals start their shopping in November.
