L'Oréal wants to restore wildlife in the UK

L'Oréal veut restaurer la faune au Royaume-Uni

The group has just announced that the L’Oréal Nature Regeneration Fund will support a nature restoration project in the UK. The project, in collaboration with The Real Wild Estates Company (RWEC), aims to restore a minimum of 50,000 hectares of degraded habitats across the UK and create around 1,000 direct jobs.

The United Kingdom is one of the countries with the most endangered wildlife. It is in the bottom 10% of the global biodiversity index. The L’Oréal group has therefore decided to join RWEC’s action to contribute to the “rewilding” of the country.

“Based in Somerset, RWEC offers an innovative approach to nature restoration: enabling local communities to create and diversify their economic activities through the environment. RWEC identifies and manages areas with real natural capital potential suitable for nature restoration, regenerative agriculture and rewilding. By supporting wildlife and ecosystems, the company is creating new economic opportunities, jobs and income for rural communities in sectors as diverse as environmental management, ecotourism, tour guiding and organic farming,” said L’Oréal.

Julian Matthews, Founder and Managing Director of The Real Wild Estates Company, explains that “the UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, losing more than half of its original biodiversity.
